what about proof grading

To be quite honest if you have to grade a proof it probably isn't worth having anyway.
If a modern proof doesn't grade at least UNC/MS65 it aint worth having

this is a perfect example of how an Australian coin should be sold.
Perfectly graded, NO fancy slabbing and NO fancy inflated prices.
At the end of the day all you really want is the COIN at a reasonable price. Perfect
I know where this coin came from and I would buy coins treated in the same way from this dealer in a heartbeat

It's from Gerry McGinley who owns At the Toss of a Coin in Adelaide. He's a very consistent grader and certainly has very neat hand-writing. Now that you know his writing you'll start seeing his 2x2's all over Australia in many different dealer's stock.

I will definitely be keeping a lookout for his coins,

That looks familiar trout. IMO by far the most consistent grading I've seen and one of the nicest blokes out there. The thing I like the most is the majority of the time any blemishes or errors are identified on the 2x2.

I must pass on my thanks to you lot. I'm happy that you guys can give praise and recommendations like this, which really help newbies like me out!
After seeing this handwriting on a 1927 Florin on ebay, I asked a few questions and before I knew it I just bought it.
Been burnt before with overgraded stuff with poor photos, at least I know I can look out for this handwriting and get what is described.

Now the wait for Aus Post to deliver it!

OK, now that the heat has gone out of this debate I have just a couple more questions.

1. I had a look at the Blue Sheet website and it would seem that they only provide valuations on pre-decimal coins. Is this correct?

2. Does the Sheldon scale apply to Bank notes?

I was waiting for this question,
No there is no Sheldon grade on notes and they are still graded in the "old school fashion"
Funny that.
Bit hard to slab a note
