hey guys, I found this in a lot of world coins from ebay, what year and denomination is it exactly and would it be considered something of value? Thanks in advance :) Have a great evening :D - michael
If I'm reading the characters correctly ... Showa 15, or 1940, and the coin is 1 sen. Worth maybe a quarter in that condition. Please correct me if I'm wrong - I don't have access to my references at the moment.
The thing that looks like a 5 is one of the characters indicating the Taisho era. It tripped me up for a second too. I'm not used to seeing that character, since basically all my Japanese coins are Showa.
Edit: Unless you meant the character to the left of the 10, since dates this early are read right to left. That is just the character for year, that always comes after the date.
What ZiggyZ said. I got about one thing right of every thing I posted. Lesson learned - wait until you have your references in hand before you pose as an expert.
