I joined the Forum because of this project and my desire to report on my coin / money philosophy. As a farmers market seller of produce, we have to give change constantly and can make some choices as to how we do that. I made a decision 9 years ago to do things differently than our competitors just like we grow and sell unusual vegetables, we take mostly Half dollars and two dollar bills to market for making change. This highlights our different nature and quality of products. I had thought of using dollar coins too, but that presents a MAJOR practical problem as we get vastly more dollar bills in payment for produce than anything else. So, despite my desire to use the dollar coins, they are not part of our strategy. How does this relate to the project in this thread? Well, I have moved from around $200 a week of $2 bills and $40 in half dollars to now over $200 in half dollars every week and $600 in $2 bills every week that we give out. Also, it has cut our transaction efforts slightly and the time needed too. So how much have I sent into circulation of the half dollar coins? Over $60,000 in 9 years. Currently over $10,000 in half dollars per year go into circulation and we account for 3/4 of the half dollars our bank branch sends out. Grant

I should ask the forum how to account for our usage of the half dollars. Would it be the $215 that we gave out on Saturday and Sunday? Or the over $10,000 this past year? Enquiring minds would like to know. Grant
$215 is included below

Nice marketing tool. Accountability here obviously should be for each transaction--half dollar change for this corn, two half dollars change for that lettuce, etc. [grin, nudge] just kidding, of course!
