I'm hoping to upgrade one of my lincoln cents. What do you all think of this one. Grade? Value? I'd like some idea before I pull the trigger. thank you!

AU-53 , But not sure about the color. If it's a woodie fine. but if it's not there can be an issue.

Pass, questionable surfaces IMO.

BadThad, I should have stated this coin is graded problem free by PCGS. The reason I asked the question was because I found the surfaces a little strange as well. PCGS graded this coin at MS-64. Agree or disagree? I didn't post the grade because I had some questions regarding it so I thought I'd go ahead and post it now for debate. Thank you!

Looks artificial toning to me, AT.

Grade does not always equate to eye appeal, which in my mind is much more important than the number on the label.

MS64? rd, rb? For the right price I'd love it. $20 no problem.

Price aside, I see no problem with this half-woodie, so to speak. Very attractive.

IMHO: If this were going into my Lincoln Cent, I'd pass since it doesn't match any of the others. However, on owning the coin, I'd take it. It is rather interesting provided it wasn't artificially toned (which should have been detected by the 3rd party).

Well, I can only go by what I see in two pictures and I stick to my original comment. I don't like how it looks and I don't like the black spots on the obverse. MS-63 questionable toning.

I had a guy try to sell me a PCGS ms-64 morgan but you could tell it was an AU-50 at best, the person had been sending the same coin off getting it graded and then putting lesser grade coins in the slab so believe what your eyes tell you not what is written.

Thanks all, I'm probably not going after this one but I can say this coin is sitting at one of the largest reputable dealers in Chicago. I too found it a little strange looking and I'm grateful for everyone's response. I think I'll pass on this one and wait for another to come along. I have always lived by the motto buy the coin and not the holder. Again, thanks all!

I have no issue with the toning at all. I dont like the carbon spots as Thad pointed out and I think it is over graded. 63 might even be a stretch.
