I visit 3 to 4 times a year. When I visit I'll spent coins as I prefer Dollar coins...
too used to coins that dollar bills feel weird

I also try very hard to avoid getting 1 dollar bills in change for purchases. But sometimes it is unavoidable. Others are not as enlightened as we are. But I refuse to spend them and most are very ratty anyway. I put them in a box and when I get 50 of them I take them to the bank and exchange for 50 dollar coins, which I am doing tomorrow.
In the meantime, I spent 2 half dollars at the grocery store, 2 halves in the Salvation Army bucket, 1 half for pizza, 3 dollar coins and 5 halves at bowling, and 5 halves at the club for drinks, etc. This is 10.50 total.
