Hello all out there in coincommunity! My dad recently handed me a bag of half and dollars, I never knew he had. He said, "see what you can do with these", LOL. Anyway, I've been bitten with Coin Fever, and I think I found a new hobby by accident. I am having a hard time distinguishing a Doubled Die, but I think I found one. Does this 1974-D look Doubled to all you experts? Also, any pointers on how to truly tell? Thanks again! Joeturbo  |

Can't tell for sure without a much better picture, but it looks like Machine Doubling. |

You can tell Machine Doubling by how it looks flat, or kinda like a shelf, for a real doubled die, it has a 3D appearance. |

Gotcha! I've never stared so hard at coins in my life before haha.. heres a closer pic, guess today isn't my lucky doubled die day... doesn't look too 3D or shelf like to me.  |

Cannot tell without much closer picture of the WE TRUST, which is where the prominent doubling occurs. From a distance it doesn't look like it though, as this doubling is so clear, it can be seen without a magnifier.

Thanks John1... that coppercoins should receive a 1969 S doubled die for that clarification! INCREDIBLE! ok off to ebay to buy a jewelers loop after reading that  . |
