A friend has had it for over 50 years, but needed the cash and was planning to sell it to a bullion dealer, so I offered to pay her the same amount the bullion dealer had. (It was a reputable coin and bullion dealer from whom I regularly buy coins, not one of those sharks who offer to buy coins and jewelry and only give a fraction of the value). I already had a 1964 Gillick portrait sovereign, so it wasn't high on my list of priorities, but I felt I couldn't let the opportunity pass.
