Unknown Elephant Token? - Coin Community Forum

detectorFRED New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 12/20/2012 09:44 am Please help me identify this coin I found the other day.It is 29mm across the face, it appears to have an elephant on the reverse side and a person on the obverse side facing to the left. I have had no luck in identifying it. I thought that it was an elephant token but the elephants head appears to be looking up and there is a person on the other side. philadelphian Pillar of the Community United States 3253 Posts	Posted 12/20/2012 10:46 am I'm just seeing a British halfpenny, probably George III, or a coin imitating one. Where you see an elephant, I see Britannia; in your close up pic, her head is to about 10 o'clock, and her right hand holding the sprig points toward 7 o'clock. Centrally, you can see the upsidedown "V" made between her right arm and right thigh. Report this Post to the Staff

philadelphian Pillar of the Community United States 3253 Posts	Posted 12/20/2012 7:12 pm The straight line from edge to edge at the left-hand side of your pic defines the exergue beneath Britannia. Zoom in on that sliver and see if you can make out your date! Report this Post to the Staff
