I suspect dumping Grandpa's coin bucket is as right as anything else. I was just wondering if there was some key to buying from a bank that was obvious to you but the rest of us didn't know. I buy silver from pawn shops, sometimes they are way high, sometimes they are way low, sometimes they want to make a deal. I thought everybody did this, but it was news to some.

Also, don't feel bad about calling it "junk silver". "Junk" gets "dumped", for us to find!

When our older generation dies, they usually leave a huge estate for their kids to go through. Imagine if someone you loved just passed away, and then you were given the biggest cleaning and selling challenge of your entire life. Trying to convince yourself to toss, sell, or give away items your loved one cherished. You've spent days and days going through stuff and you have this pile of coins that you don't know much about. These people aren't really at a place in their life where they have time to devote to learning coin values. They take the easy road and dump them at a bank or coin arcade.
