Question About 2001-P Nickel With 2 Mark

While roll hunting I came across a 2001P nickel that has a very small 2 inscribed a short distance to the left of the P. I can't seem to find reference to it anywhere online and was wondering what the 2 represents. Unfortunately someone has intentionally scratched the coin on both sides with something very fine and sharp so the pictures aren't ideal. IMHO it looks like a bit of a plating issue there, some very minor bubbling which just happens to resemble the number 2. Report this Post to the Staff

NightSilver New Member Canada 33 Posts	Posted 04/01/2013 11:17 pm It does'nt look to be made by someone because, the "2" seems to be around .018 thousands of an inch. A CNC programmed machine with spindle off could make a very clear small picture like this, but who would bother doing it? Anywas, Very nice eye for the figure of the number! It seems too accurate (in terms of looking like a 2) to have been accidental, but why would anyone do it intentionally? It's driving me crazy - I can't stop pulling it out and looking at it LOL It's too bad someone defaced it with so many scratches though - probably ruins any potential value it has :( Report this Post to the Staff
