It's interesting to read the reviews of the gilded Lilly O Canada coins on the RCM site. There are six reviews up, with an average rating of 1.2 star out of 5. They all pan this set. I can't understand why...

I can't understand why one reviewer gave it 2 stars. If it was an option, I'd think it would be zero stars.
But the reviews are mostly complaints about the issue of the coins, general shipping delays, price gouging etc not the coins themselves. I would have added that the gilding does nothing to enhance the coin and to me, makes them look cheap. But the dark case is nicer than the high mintage 12 coin set. Of course that is just my eye.
Last I checked, they had sold over 800 of the 1500 so someone must like them. My guess is this will become a very low mintage set but at $900 I don't think there is any room for it to appreciate (may even depreciate).

I was a little surprised to see this on my doorstep tonight, especially since I haven't received any of my August or September release yet....and they shipped it by itself. It's nice in hand, but not stunning, I'm more interested in the Caribou anyways.

@fed_ink85, Still a nice looking coin. I think both the polar bear and caribou look pretty nice!

The polar bear looks like it's smiling.

Does everyone figure these are one-offs or a series?
Testing waters?

My contact at the mint said that the coloured polar bear and caribou are individual coins and not a part of any planned series as of now.

Sounds like the Autumn Bliss coin. I believe it to be a one off as well

I think polar bear, caribou (new release-color) are not part of a set & neither Autumn Bliss. These are familiar scenes in Canadian coins & will continue to be. Autumn Bliss seems to be an apology for autumn canopy coin & polar bears & caribou always seems popular, though overproduced images IMO.

Interesting. I'll bet RFD is all a buzz.

Not sure it's time to bury the coin just yet. Canadian MC members can buy that coin cheaper directly from the mint (because of shipping and f/x) and they will know that it will be perfect and/or easily returnable. These are the first two sales and low returns happen with almost every coin sold soon after release because most people looking on ebay for coins that are still available from the Mint are informed about new releases. You never want to be the first to sell on ebay. Besides, the sub is the one to have IMO. Why would you want just one great lake or 5 in clamshells? These coins just scream to be in a set.
