1509 Peerdeken of Snaphaan No date, but introduced in 1509 Ruler: Charles II, Duke of Guelders (also called Charles of Egmong (1492-1538) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charl..._of_GueldersThe image shows the duke with a raised sword in armor on horseback. That looks like a brigand, formerly called "Snaphaan" (flintlock). Hence the name of the currency. Officially, it is a six 'stuiver' piece but no uses that name, of course, with such a beautiful name. Vz .: KA_ROL DVX GELRIE * * * IVL_ COM ZVT exergue : *GELR'* Karolus dux Gelrie Julich comes Zutphen Charles, duke of Guelders and Julich (Gulik), count of Zutphen Rev .: AEQVITA'_IVDICIA_TVA: DO_MIN Aequitas judicia tua Domine Jour judgements are fair (motto of the city of Roermond) Charles of Egmond was duke of Guelders and Julich (or Julich) and Count of Zutphen. Guelders had in his time an Upperquarter, Roermond coins were also struck there. The coins, struck for the Duchy, can be found in the part 'Gelderland Lords' of the catalog of Vander Chijs.. The city of Roermond has also struck coins, these can be found in the section 'Gelderland Cities'. Literatuur: Delmonte 516 Here is a better one (not mine):

Just how early are the first dated coins (Gregorian calendar)? I know England didn't start dating coins until 1547, but what about the rest of Europe?

This was actually the first thread I ever looked at on CCF. Not really. I will lock the first edition and point it here when this one gets to 1495 (or whatever year they meet). It will stay open and active for people to post as the coins come.
