Fuzzy, love that coin, I'm glad it is one that I was able to keep during my brush with unemployment.

the Liberty figure is nice, a bit of a departure from the "usual" Liberty images

Important Rules Reminder For This Thread:

- We must go in order, one year at a time. No going back, no jumping ahead.
- One Year Per Day! Do not advance to the next year until after Midnight Forum Time!
- One coin per person per year, unless part of a set. That is, one person should not create multiple posts for each year.

Please ignore the 1986 posted above. We are still on 1987.

Darn it... wanted to post an 1987 (when I make some photos...) and thought the day wasn't yet over.
(Thinking of it, it probably wasn't; unless I heavily miscounted something here, the last 1988 coin was posted less than 24 hours before that 1986 coin. So something is clearly off.)

That said, since I didn't want to create a major problem, I wouldn't dare try to post anything like that unless there's a decision in my favor from someone high up (e.g. the OP); in fact I already realized why my logic might be wrong (if 11/1 was 2007 day as stated in OP, 11/21 would've been 1987 day, and 11/22 aka today would've been 1986 day; OTOH, 11/19 was clearly declared 1990 day by jbuck, which would mean today is 1987 day).
I suppose I could always just ignore this and try to come in again when we get to dates a few decades earlier. Or to 1599... not many people here other than me with 1599-dated coins (or 1615, or 1622, or 1626; there's at least a half-dozen other dates in my collection for the 17th century - plus 1521 and 1517 in the 16th but we might not get that far).

EDIT:
Apparently, while I was writing this, there was just such a decision posted.
So I suppose I should go and try to get a photo of my coin before it's too late

using the American system here, as it is used in the forum timestamps

In 1987, we returned more than the life span of the Euro to the very cradle of the European Monetary System, when the ECU was conceived as a 'basket currency' and unit of account. At the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Rome Treaty (whereby the European Economic Community was formed) Belgium issued the very first 5 Ecu coin ever (which was legal tender, but not circulating).

Hereby the (unusual) obverse, picturing the emperor Charles (Carolus in Latin), ruling much of Europe (and the recently discovered Latin America) in the first half of the 16th century:

and the more commonplace reverse with "Belgium" indicated in the three national languages:

Now what?
No more modern commemorative dollars ... no more ASE's

It could get boring looking at the same dead president's for the next 40 years .. (of course 71 through 78 will be a exception)

I guess we hope our, outside the U.S.A. members will post some of their nice coins, to keep things interesting.

I did take a couple quick pictures, not good quality pics ..

but here is a 1985 Canada dollar

1985 Great Britain proof set â€" my birth year.

I apologise profusely for the terrible picture quality. Photographing proof sets is a nightmare when they're sealed inside a plastic case. I had to do it at an angle to avoid a reflection.
