Here's another German States coin commemorating the centennial of Napoleon's defeat. Saxony, 3 mark, 1913E This monument was erected for the occasion in 1913 - the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Leipzig. Apparently it cost 6,000,000 goldmark to build... which may or may not have been recouped in part by these coins (a mintage of 1,000,000 means 3,000,000 goldmark for Saxony). In German the "Monument to the Battle of the Nations" is called the Völkerschlachtdenkmal and it stands 91 meters tall, which is impressive for such a huge concrete structure. Saxony is still a federal state of modern Germany and it still contains this monument within its territory. In 2013, the bicentennial of the original Battle, the very same monument was placed on a Russian 5-ruble coin commemorating the Russian army's campaign to drive back and then finish off Napoleon. I own it as well - it's pretty fun to see the same building featured on two different coins 100 years apart!

1913 ITALY 1 LIRA; 0.835 silver; 23mm; mintage= 16.1 mil. : This is the commonest date in a 5-year run of these beautiful coins. I'm still looking for the 2-lire version, but they get into the hundreds of $ pretty quickly.

Nice coin, nalaberong. Got any swappers? Quote: it's pretty fun to see the same building featured on two different coins 100 years apart! Hang in there.. it's only 24 years until the Jefferson nickel will be ready to fulfill your wildest dreams.
