Gilles...I'm just trying to grade it as ICCS sees it.

That to me is the secret in this coin business.

Why try to grade any differently than the standard for Canadian coins?

May I respectively suggest if your grading opinion more often than not differs from ICCS, I advise you do an overhaul of your grading techniques and begin to learn how they grade.

to mr doubles eagle, some time you make the good sense, but I still think that in the long time it best if we all practiced to make up our own experience for the knowledge, 'cause like I think I pretty know much what how the ICCS guy he grade, but I still not sure its the exact proper way all the time, and I would not always trust that compare to mine own eye, eh

and to my good friend the mr DEVLEC, there are lots of guy on here that know who I am, but like I told you one of the time when I try to leave my emailed on here but they took it off, I would like some time to have conversation with you, 'cause you would have such a laugh you would probably fall over, but you will gonna have to send me msg cause I can't send the msg over your way, no

This grading stuff is really confusing. How do one learn to grade? Any good books? Any (semi)formal institutions? How many major different school of thoughts (other than ICCS technical vs. PCGS eye-appeal, etc.) are there? I'm assuming it's definitely not via PCGS Photograde app., which just adds to the confusion.

Osmiumblue. I think forums like these are helpful. There is enough material and graded examples online to reference. Also, I understand that the RCNA has a grading work shop once a year in Toronto. Start simple. In other words just start to grade coins G,VG,F,VF EF,AU,MS, with more focus on VF-AU. Not sure if anyone will agree but I find MS coins more difficult, even more so when trying to grade a 2012 penny from a photograph between an MS66 and MS67. I would even venture to say that the bottom of the scale can also be difficult. Last but not least, you have to look at coins. Lot's of them. Although I prefer and often defend the US TPGs (for numerous reasons), if you're going to do Canadian coins, then right now ICCS is the predominant standard in grading. As has been said here before, since most Canadian coins are graded by them, even if you don't agree, you might as well learn the intricacies. If all else fails, Gilles can grade for you.

Gilles, please. I hate to see this thread turn out like this. I only wanted grade opinions and all opinions are welcome to me. Your first post here sounded insulting towards other opinions. I don't see a reason to get into any argument over opinions based on photos. Go to ebay and search Canadian fifty cent coins for "1947 ICCS". You will see many graded MS that look a lot like this one.

Even with you going "nuclear" on this coin kbbpll, I am still confident it would still make MS62-63. Thanks for sharing.
