Awesome... I would grade this at AU53. Really nice example of a key date. There is a possibility that it was cleaned at one time and retoned but it could be the pix

Man, that is an AMAZING key date! I say AU53/55. The poor 'T' in Trust took a hit but, wow. Someday I'd love to own a coin like that!

WOW! I am in the XF/AU camp - leaning toward AU. How is the color?

Looks XF40 and maybe even 45. This is a pricey key date at that grade level and this one is well worth a TPG.

Thanks for the grades everyone. I pulled this from an NGC slab VF details cleaned. To me, it doesn't really look cleaned. It has a nice dark brown color with no hairlines. It might have an old dip or have been slightly wiped with a cloth at some point, but it looks fine to me. I thought it looked especially strong for a VF, and looks more XF to me when comparing to other certified 14-d examples. However, because of the NGC designation, it came quite cheap. It's a great album coin for now. :-)

Are the spots I see carbon, or crud? If the latter, I could see them rationalizing "cleaned." Me, I wouldn't turn it down either way.

Here is a link to the auction:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1914-D-Linc...p=true&rt=nc

The little spots look green in the sellers picture, but black in hand under a 20x loupe. Either way, they are probably little pieces of verdigris. The tone is much more even than what the seller's pictures show; I was really pleasantly surprised at how nice and original the coin looks in hand. The only hint of cleaning is the fact that the coin has a very slight glossy look to it....but I am willing to bet the original submitter was expecting a problem free slab. Anyways, I think the coin is XF, and may consider a resubmission along the way.
