I spotted this on ebay with less than five minutes left on the auction. Looks suspicious to me. Any opinions?

I think it's okay.
It's just that the toning looks "unusual".
Not necessarily retoned; just different.

But if I have to ask myself the question "Is it okay" then I pass on the coin.

Might be a lead forgery.

The denticles on the reverse are what concern me. The ones about in the 5:00 position look a bit odd to me as well as the ones at about 8:00. There is a little rim ding just to the left of the very top and for some reason it too looks a bit odd to me.

I don't trust it, the stars surrounding the 5, they have no to not much lines in it. AU-53 for one side, VF-35 for the other...

Guenuine, but corroded from spending time in the ground when nearly new. At some point, it spent some time in a bowl of tarn-x. I know the look ... because I have treated some V nickels that I have dug, as well as a couple dug buffalos ... and they have the same grainy appearance.

I sincerely doubt that a fake would reproduce the obverse die cracks.

Looks pitted. Might have been buried. Some kinda environmental damage.
