1887, 1888, 1896 Indian Head Cents - Thoughts On Grade

angellionel Valued Member United States 191 Posts	Posted 04/08/2014 10:10 pm Here are three I pulled from my bag of found Indian Head cents. I removed the thick caked-on soil covering them and was pleasantly surprised to see that these had very nice details. The 1896 still has gunk on the reverse I could not remove with acetone so I left it as is. I don't want to risk ruining the coin My experience grading Indian Head cents is minimal so I'm hoping community members may be able to assist. Thoughts? Thanks in advance! You have some cool detecting finds ! I have others like the above, but they have thick verdigris on them, like the following 1897. It has excellent details, but the verdigris on the obverse is stubbornly stuck. This next one is a 1893 still encased in soil. It's how they are typically found, though there are areas where they have only a very light dusting, so hardly anything needs to be done to remove the soil. I love finding those.
