I found this token while digging around in the woods in the hartslog valley. It is a communion token that was given to 60 people who walked for up to 10-15 miles to attend the first church service at the first Presbyterian church in Huntington county pa. I was able to get info on it at the local museum. I also got a copy of the reproductions they made in 1979 for hartslog day. This token was determined to be authentic.

I'm wondering what kind of value a token like this would have? I also wanted to know if there are any other in existence? Basically I haven't a clue about communion tokens and any info would be awesome!

Here is a picture of the authentic token next to a reproduction. The date it was made was 1787. http://www.hartslog.org and here is the story behind the token.

to the CCF. This is out of my area of expertise.

I have Googled and searched for a comparison but turned up nothing.

I know there are a couple of books on communion tokens but have no idea if yours would be mentioned in either of them.

Sorry I can't provide a better answer.

I sent an email to a guy who runs a blog on communion tokens. He posted it along with a story for the month of June. In the artel is says it is categorized as bason-243. The problem is, I have no clue what that means. I also can't find out if it's something that one or two still exist or 10-20. I would assume very few because only 60 were made. I know that the present day hartslog church had one in there collection at one time. They do not currently know exactly where it is though.

Here is the article http://communiontokens.blogspot.com...ers.html?m=1

I also don't know how to put value on a communion token. I've seen that ones made in the US can fetch 100+. I also saw that some from Jamaica sold for 400-700. The rarity seems to be there but I don't really know what makes a 20 dollar token and what makes a 700 dollar token.

That classification most likely comes from Autence A. Bason's book titled, Communion Tokens of the United States of America It was published in 1989.

Here's a copy for sale on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Communion-T...em4183c2b419

I don't own this book, so I don't know if it lists rarity ratings or values (which would be outdated after 25 years).
