1908 Canadian 5 Cent Large 8? - Coin Community Forum

Coin Scavenger Valued Member Canada 444 Posts	Posted 12/15/2014 01:46 am In 1908 a large 8 or small 8 variety was available, is it possible to have a large 8 over small 8? The large 8 should have a bow and small 8 should have a cross/bow. This coin appears to have large 8 with doubling then a cross over bow, a mix of the varieties. This isn't a Newfoundland but rather a plain Canadian silver five cent, correct? The Newfoundland says "NEWFOUNDLAND" on it. From the quick survey I did of other large and small 8s, it looks to me like a lot of the large 8s show doubling. But this is an interesting one!
