I did not know that Ferdinand VII was also King of India (IND REX on the coin). Is this referring to the West Indies, or to the actual subcontinent?

The ego of kings knows no bounds, but in this case I believe the legend refers to the West Indies -- the Caribbean or more generally their colonies in the Americas. And in 1818 Ferdinand VII was barely king of Spain as he had only regained the throne in 1813. Direct control of Spanish colonies was severed in 1808 when the Spanish throne was abdicated to Napoleon.

Brand new digital image of 1818 cent posted earlier today (using an old film photo).

As far as I can tell, posting the same coin twice complies with rules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 listed at the beginning of this thread.
I would gladly make an exception if it did not. Well done! The new photos look great.

1816 8 reales, Mexico City mint. This was the cheapest slabbed draped bust Ferdinand VII 8 reales I could find to fill a slot in my Mexico City competitive set at the NGC registry.

1815 8 reales, Mexico City mint. This one was an upgrade to the 1816 that I posted yesterday for my competitive registry set.
