You won't have that happen this year.
I just purchased a 1783.

In that case, this year's thread should get at least two postings for 1783 -- mine will be small (and rather unimpressive) gold coin, one of the few I have before 1800.

Finally a year I can also post .
Here is 20 kreuzer silver coin (.583) from 1818, minted at Vienna (mintmark A). It bears the image of Francis II, emperor of Holy Roman Empire and later, after 1804 (as on this coin) Francis I, Emperor of Austria.

This coin was a part of what I call my family heirloom, I will have some more as we approach the 1780s. From what I've been told by my parents, there were many more silver coins in the family 'stash', but were given to children who were considered more legit 'heirs' of the silver - whatever that means. It's ok, I can live with that; I just really, really dislike the idea that some old silver coins that were in our family for 200+ years are just lying around in some student's desk drawer - or worse

p.s. Just out of curiosity, what do you guys think that coin would be graded as? G-4? G-6? (Just trying to get some feel to the grading system with coins I am familiar with.)

This is my smallest silver coin.

Of course it came back from ANACS labeled 'questionable authenticity'.
Posting here for educational/informative value.

I don't collect those, but do you have any idea what's wrong with it that it came back "questionable"?

Brand new digital image of 1818 cent posted earlier today (using an old film photo).

As far as I can tell, posting the same coin twice complies with rules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 listed at the beginning of this thread.

How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Third-Edition!-Ended-At-1487-Waiting-On-1486

With the added resolution of the digital image, the flaws in the coin and the slab become more obvious
