I live in Fortuna, California, USA. It's a small town about 300 miles north of San Francisco, behind what we laughingly refer to as the "Redwood Curtain." (For you younger forum members who don't remember the "Cold War," communist countries in Eastern Europe were referred to as being behind the Iron Curtain.)

We are currently living in Glendale, California and just started collecting coins. My 10 year old's class read a book about coins and they decided to find the oldest penny they could. Now he loves coins and the whole family is joining in.

It's good that he was introduced to numismatics at a young age! Do you know what the oldest cent they managed to find was?

Hello
I live in Colorado (16 years) but born and raised in Massachusetts. Served 4 years in U.S army. Married with 3 kids. We just started coin collecting about 2 months ago as something to do as a family. My wife is battling cancer and this seemed like a great thing to get the kids into as a distraction and eventually life long hobby. We have been lucky since we began buying lots of " Usearchead" wheat pennies from ebay. Incredibly we have found an 1877 Indian head, 1909 S VDB, 1909 S, 1914 D, 1911 S, and many other key and semi key dates. Amazingly there are Truly unsearched lots out there. The kids 9, 11, 12 had never even seen a Wheat penny until 2 months ago and they now each have wheat collection books and anticipate our mail delivery every day. I on the other hand have begun to buy platinum and silver coins from the late 1800's and early 1900's as an investment. It was nice to find this forum and would like to thank all the contributors to it. Being new to collecting I have found a lot of great information and hope I can one day contribute as so many have. Thank you again and Be Well.

Born in Wellsburg, a little town on the Ohio River in the northern 'panhandle' of West Virginia of about 3000 people. In fifteen minutes, I could be in either Ohio or Pennsylvania. Moved to Morgantown, WV in 87 to go to college. Moved to Fairmont in '06 to be closer to work- 7 minute commute! Of course, they then moved me to Clarksburg- 20 minute commute!
