Hi Cara, It's great that you got your dad's coins! Sounds like you have some research ahead of you.

Cara! I'm in the same boat. If you have any Japanese coins, I found a very useful site to identify them with dating that I can send. I hope you get some good information here.

Hi All, I'm in San Francisco. There are just a handful of coin stores in the area so I use ebay as my source. I guess it's not a popular hobby here. :(

08Blond! It seems that you potentially have some good local sources as opposed to rural North Texas. Even though, you have here access to pick the brains of established numismatists from all over the world. You won't go a full day without getting an educated opinion on your question.

@ mast3r_1978 Depending on the date/series, that needs to be posted in the Modern or Classic Variety and Error coin sections with clear pics of the coin and areas in question (highly important).

I'm from East Meadow, NY
I'm not a dealer, investor or grader....just a hobbyist. Good thing, because if I had to make a living at this I would have starved long ago.

Welcome USSID18!
You're absolutely right about starving.
My sister and I just started selling some coins earlier this year. It's a good thing we aren't trying to pay the bills with the proceeds!
We've done alright I guess, but it's slow going. There are a lot of sellers out there.
You're better off as a hobbyist!

Hi all. I'm from Mineral, Virginia; About an hour from Richmond, Charlottesville or Fredericksburg (i.e. the middle of nowhere), USA. I'm glad I found this site and looking forward to exploring and learning more.
