I'm going to my first coin show tomorrow, the Whitman Coin & Collectibles show in Atlanta. I've got my list of coins I want, but I've been thinking it might be nice to have a US gold coin. I've done a little price checking at Teletrade & Harlan J Berk & it looks like I might be able to pick something up in the EF to AU range for less than $200.

Can anyone tell me the weights of the $2.50 & $5 coins? I'd like to have an idea of bullion value compared to asking prices. I'll be looking at common dates & feel like prices shouldn't be too much of a premium to bullion value.

By all means I am NOT promoting this dealer but just showing an illustration of what such coins are going for:

I don't know what I was thinking about, all the info I needed was in the RedBook.

$200 seems fair for a common XF-AU $5 lib right now - maybe $210 at current gold price. I was offered $179 for a common VG I have yesterday, but didn't sell it.
