I am new to photographing coins. I used my smart phone and a 7x aspheric magnifying glass. So forgive me for the quality of the pictures.   |

There's definitely enough meat in your images to come to a somewhat-informed opinion of the coin, although there's room to debate the originality of the surfaces. I think they're original, and will place this one in the yard of XF40's house.

EF-45 details, it appears to have been cleaned at some point.

Yeah I learned a lesson on this one. The coin has on a little mint luster left when seen in person and I didn't use a magnifying glass when I looked at it at the shop. I don't know if it has ever been cleaned, I couldn't see the little scratches until I put it under the 7x magnification. I have a 1856 seated liberty that I purchased the same day that looks about the same. Thanks for the replies

The truth is I thought I was safe since it still had some patina and didn't look polished. To me it looks like it sat in a bag full of other coins and rubbed on them. The dealer had it at au 55 and being a rookie I took it home without questioning it. I am learning from my mistakes quickly!!

XF40 details. I don't think its original. To me it looks like someone attempted to polish it and stopped half way through the process. Lighting us everything so you need to deterime that in hand on this one. Just going by what I see
