I am sure that some of them are. I think that some people go there with metal detectors to try and find some that are still down there. Does anyone know how many he made and what the police did with all those fake nickels when they caught him?
Very cool! I've actually never owned one of these. I should fix that, as I have a propensity for contemporary counterfeits and enjoy coins of this period. Thanks for bringing it up and the reminder, Coinfrog!

Supposedly, the sheets of material he bought to punch his planchets were so close to being the correct composition that all of it was given to the mint who melted them down to tweek and reuse for official coinage.
I seem to recall reading that he dumped some 200,000 into the Schuykill alone, and that less than 15,000 of those were recovered. I can only think that they all must have been destroyed. Many others were dumped into a river in NJ. No doubt many of them are still there, long sunk in the mud.
