Ignotus New Member Australia 11 Posts	Posted 10/18/2015 9:02 pm Hi First post to the coin community and just started to Noodle coins so very much learning what is an error coin V PMD and what is worth keeping. I have found this 1988 very grainy $2 coin on both sides and unsure what is the cause and if it's an actual error and worth keeping. Thanks for your help. Report this Post to the Staff

Numisma Pillar of the Community United States 4963 Posts	Posted 10/19/2015 03:33 am I'm really not sure what to say on this one. I'd have to agree with sel- maybe exposed to a corrosive substance. The only error I can think of that this even remotely resembles is a strike-through, and it has too much detail for that. Plus, a strike-through would probably only be on one side. Matt_J Valued Member Australia 88 Posts	Posted 10/22/2015 5:03 pm I see heaps of 'grainy' coins like these, usually in the 20c and 50c sizes. they are usually as a result of being heavily damages and then cleaned so they can be deposited. For example, a customer of mine works rinses his damaged coins from a wrecking yard vending machine in acid before running them through a coin counter at the bank, its not uncommon for him to have 3-400 worth of coins like this in 1 deposit. then they go and get distributed like normal. im not 100% that your coin is like this, but when I find a similar I throw it back as in my experience I see too many to consider looking closer Report this Post to the Staff
