Nice ones, trig! I'm going to keep my eyes open for some of these sweet little Swedes.

Quote: some of these sweet little Swedes. I love my Swedish coins. Only need about 10 of those 10 ore coins to complete the set from 1900 on. Most of mine came from X2an, a member on this forum. He is currently working down here in Aus.

Quote: I'm going to keep my eyes open for some of these sweet little Swedes. In my youth these were the smallest coins and they tended to fill up your wallet as you got more and more of them in change, and it was too cumbersome to use them to pay for anything, because you had to count so many of them to get a useful sum (they corresponded to about 2 US cents). They piled up in drawers and boxes as you regularly emptied the wallet of them, when it became too heavy to carry around. You could try to get your hands on the even smaller 10 öre coin from the 1855-1873 period. They measure 12.7 mm across and were nicknamed "herring scales". Here is one with Charles XV (one of the three kings who reigned during the period): Compared to a dime and one of the 15 mm 10 öre coins:

Nice ones, trig and erafjel - now I want to complete a type set of the 10 Öre coins! They make this Czech Republic 10 Haleru 1994 (15.5 mm) seem like a giant.

erafjel and triggersmob have given me the 10 Öre bug! Just picked up this "herring scale" Sweden 1855 - a whopping 12.7 mm.
