@commems: I would imagine your collection has brought you a great deal of satisfaction and enthusiasms through the years. I enjoy seeing your examples whenever you post them. I have a couple I'll be sharing once things settle down. I got my brother-in-law's collection dealt with and can finally see the top of my dining table again.
By the way, my buddy in Boise is still willing to visit the State Historical Society Archives re: the 1963 Idaho Territorial Centennial medal, if you have further interest.

Quote: Here's a fairly recent MACO medal (from about 35 years ago!) - a 1988 commemorative piece for New Haven, Connecticut. Very nice!

The Society of Medalists celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 1980. Sculptor Chester Martin's "The Snail & The Galaxy" was the 1st place selection in the design contest. MACo Archive # 1980-113. 2-7/8 inches. Have also seen this medal described as "50th Anniversary First-Place Special Issue" with a reported mintage of 500. Chester Martin was a sculptor-engraver on the engraving staff of the USM in Philadelphia from 1986 through 1992. From his Coin World obituary: Quote: Although Mr. Martin's tenure at the Mint was brief, he still made significant contributions to the bureau's numismatic legacy, chief among them the designing and engraving of the Gen. Colin Powell congressional gold medal and the reverse of the 1992-D White House Bicentennial silver dollar. Mr. Martin also modeled the reverse of the 1990-W Eisenhower Birth Centennial silver dollar designed by sculptor Marcel Jovine, and modeled the obverse of the 1992 Olympic silver dollar designed by artist John R. Deecken. He also designed and engraved a USM medal celebrating the centennial of Yosemite National Park. That medal is below:

Thanks, Hondo. I'm also happy with the photo results I'm getting from the inexpensive LED light box I picked up at Amazon on their latest prime day.

Frank Lloyd Wright's "The Organic Commandment" -- MACo # 1977-149 -- is a 2.5 x 2.5 inch bronze medal commissioned by Frank Lloyd Wright & Associates, with artwork supplied by the customer. Issued in 1978, the version shown below is represented as a paperweight by some on-line sellers: The reverse artwork can be found on art glass, coffee cups, trivets, and even refrigerator magnets. The original was posted as a sign at Taliesin West, Wright's winter home nestled in the desert foothills of the McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The 4 medal Liberty Series commemorating the centennial of the Statue of Liberty became an ad hoc goal of mine during the summer. They share a common obverse: Common Obverse The "American Museum of Immigration" medal below completes my set:

Here's a 1954 MACO medal - the Johns Hopkins University 50 Year Alumnus medal. The medal is the work of noted Baltimore sculptor Hans Schuler. For more on the medal, see: - The Johns Hopkins University Alumni Medal
