Issued in 1968, C. Paul Jennewein's medallion of James Monroe was adapted from a 1931 bust by Hermon A. MacNeil. Jennewein also sculpted Woodrow Wilson, Mark Twain, Samuel F. B. Morse, Edward MacDowell, and Danile Boone. Of the medal's Reverse Design, Jennewein writes: " The palm in one hand signifying the peaceful relations between this country and the nations of Europe. . .however the sword in the other hand expresses the power behind the statement in the [Monroe] Doctrine."

Albany, New York, native Joseph Henry's pioneering work with electromagnets gave birth to the telegraph and his work helped usher in electrically powered machinery. In 1846 he left Princeton to become the first secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. Adlai S. Hardin's medal was issued in 1972. Am finding the 76mm versions w/o boxes and flyers are more affordable than the 44mm versions with original boxes and flyers. There are 94 medals in the series. . .hoping I'm on the right side of the dirt long enough to get them all.

Educator Mary Lyon founded Mount Holyoke College in 1837 at the age of 41. She began teaching at the age of 18. Laura Gardin Fraser designed the medal shown above; execution of the medal was by Karl H. Gruppe due to Mrs. Fraser's passing in August, 1966. The medal was issued in 1967. The HOF medal for Gilbert Stuart, released in 1968, was likewise a collaboration between Fraser and Gruppe.
