That's a fantastic medal, cptbilly! Thank you for sharing it and the information with us.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Struck in .720 fine silver, SN 1963. Sculpted by Don DeLue. Issued in 1965. As I've pursued the medals in this series, I'm seeing more silver examples available via the usual auction sites. Nearly all of them describe those examples as .999 Fine Silver. . .makes me wonder why General Lee was relegated to the Decoplata alloy though the general shortage of silver in the mid 1960's seems likely. I have a silver Teddy Roosevelt and it is marked " .999+ PURE" on the edge.; it dates to 1969.

In August 2023, I asked if the HOF for Great Americans medal series was offered via a subscription. At the time, none of our board members could confirm. Based on an interaction this week with an internet-based coin shop, it appears the 44mm Silver versions were offered that way. The coin shop recently acquired 21 of them from a single collector. All have the same serial number embossed on the edge and were issued from 1963 to 1974. Quite a few of the bronze example boxes in my collection have pen or pencil notes indicating a date received, another indicator recipients were keeping track of the medals as they arrived. Have a fine Independence Day holiday.

As catalogued by the JFK Presidential Library & Museum, this 1965 MACO medal [#1965-004], the "Christian Unity - Civil Liberty Peace Medal" commemorates the respective tenures of John F. Kennedy and Pope John XXIII. Frank Amato, Sr., was the designer. Albino Manca was the sculptor. 2.5 inches, bronze. Per the JFK Library: 14 were struck in silver. A gold strike was presented to Pope Paul VI and the dies presented to the Vactican.
