In 1921, the ANS issued a medal dedicated to the visit of Marshal Foch (MACo 1921-006). By Robert I. Aitken. The mintage in bronze was 206 pieces. Usually, such medals are numbered.

Question - does anyone know about additional issues or restrikes without numbering? Have encountered such specimens?

Medallic Art Company promotional piece marking the 25th anniversary ( 1903 - 1928 ) of the firm. Sculpted by French artist Pierre-Victor Dautel. 2 - 7/8". Brass. No dieshells recorded. MACO # 1928 - 036.

In an effort to learn more about Dautel, the linked article below re: The French Influence on World Medallic Art, dated 2012, by D. Wayne Johnson, popped up in the search results:
https://medalblog.wordpress.com/201...edallic-art/
Johnson's blog post argues medallic art should be considered a French art. Among his bullet-point assertions :

Quote:

* The Paris Mint has struck coins and medals since the 1400s. It has been a leader in advancing minting technology and attracting the best engravers noted for their talent.
* French artists invented the technique of modeling oversize and having these models pantograhically reduced to cut dies for striking.Victor Janvier, a Frenchman, began improving the reducing machine and patents his machine 1899; became the industry standard.

Johnson's post is a thought provoker for medallic art enthusiasts.

Medal is unsigned. Couldn't find it in the MACO Specimen archives hosted by ANS.
