1879-CC GSA?!?!?!

You never cease to amaze me

Thanks -- the GSAs were a lot cheaper back in the early 1970s when you got them directly from the GSA. I think the 79-CC was about $500. Others were $30 or $60, depending on the date.

I'm glad to see some other coins, especially gold, mixed in to preserve my sanity during the flood of Morgans.

With that in mind, something else a bit different: An old film shot of an 1879-S eagle:

BTW, this is just a bullion coin.

@pepactonus, it's the mass of the gold coins that I like. As with the three bears, the half eagle is a little too small, the double eagle is a little too big, but the eagle is just right. The perfect coin, even if it's just a stacker.

After 1885 (last common date for GSAs), I don't have too many Morgans to post, but I do have a fair number of S-mint $20s from my bullion stack for this thread. Usually, AU $20s are less than 15% above spot, meaning they are non-taxable in NY state, unlike the smaller coins.

I'm winding it down too, but might pull the 1909-s eagle out. It's a stacker, but more affordable than any 1909-SVDB. And one of the most attractive US coin designs IMO.

23 October - 1880

I do have some gold I can post in a couple days! Also, in only a week or two, the Barbers join in with the Morgans!

A beast and two beauties...

1880-CC Reverse '79 VAM 8. Heavily disfigured by PVC.

1880-S VAM 31. Redfield (Paramount red holder) - PL reverse with heavy die polishing lines, frosty obverse, with dark peripheral toning on both sides. Also beautiful in my opinion!
