If you can't read the last digit, your uncle probably couldn't either. I bet this is another date that he just used to plug the hole. I suggest going with acid, since you'll probably just be damaging a common date.

Well in the book the 1912-s doesn't have a filler and the 1886 doesn't either. They were just empty. That's why I'm assuming he wouldn't put a filler for this one. But I agree with going with the acid because y'all are right. Its worth 5 cents without the date.
