Going through my grandpa's coin collection, I caught the bug and decided to start my own. My very first buy was this graded 1938DD Buffalo nickel. I'm sure I paid too much ($65), but they actually dropped their price a little for me, and it was the toning that grabbed me. I tried and failed to do it justice in these photos. In good light, this coin looks like it was dipped in gold, and it has a silvery iridescent ring on both sides. I felt sure I'd never see anything like it again. Opinions welcome--and please feel free to be critical. I am learning my way, so all information is helpful!

Thanks! I was never going to be sorry for this buy because I think it's a beautiful coin, but I'm glad you think the price wasn't too far off!

Great, rainbow type coin at a fair price, being this flashy. While I'm not a big fan of slabs, it will help preserve the beauty of this buff.

I have one of these too, this type of anacs holder was known for toning coins, so it was discontinued after 2 years. I have a buff like this but way stronger. Picked it up for 20 bucks and I have had offers of 175 but I want to keep it.

Thanks! It's nice to know I didn't screw up too badly that day. Being my first coin, I'm pretty sure I'll never sell it.

The title of your thread caught my eye. I am a newbie here, also catching the bug when going through the handful of coins that were my grandfather's. So I don't have any insight into the value. I just wanted to say I think Buffalo nickel are so cool. I don't know how many I spent over the years growing up but I sure wish I had a collection of them now!
