From Italy, 5 Lire. Minted in Rome. Rome has become the capital of Italy after several years. The eternal city had been capital of the Papal State since the Middle Ages. Until 1870 it was under the protection of the French Empire (Napoleon III).

Trying to find some better 1878 Morgan's .. but some are in the bank box. And at least one is in a submission to ANACS. Here is a few that are at home. Those tired of seeing Morgan's. Don't look ....  The 1878 S in the middle is the better looking for this group.

In hopes of not missing a year ... I might have to start posting copper. Not as nice as Jbuck's .. ( Green gunk on mine, I might have to treat that) 1878 Indian Head cent

1878 Indian Head cent Thank you for the compliment.  Looks more like grime than verdigris. Perhaps a rinse in acetone could help your cent.
