Belgian 5 and 2 Francs 1868   You most often find the 2 Francs very worn, whereas 5 Francs coins are fairly easy to find in a decent grade. |

French empire 1868 Napoleon III, 1 Franc  The French empire protected Rome, since centuries capital of the Papal State (Stato Pontificio), against the Italian force aiming to complete the unification. Hence this 1868 10 Soldi (Rev with Date and double value indication: 50 Centimi of a Lira)  Obverse: Pius IX, P(ontifex) Ma(ximus), 23 (years of Pontificate).  |

Prussia (German State) 2 Pfenninge or 1/180 Thaler (on the 'obverse')  Thalers were still minted in several German states. Upon unification, the thaler was set equivalent to 3 Mark. The Mark inherited (and was part of) the non-decimal division of the Thaler. Initially, 1 Mark was divided in 120 Pfenninge. "Scheidemünze" means the coin contains less copper metal value than its face value indicates. This was the case in nearly all countries after 1860, when copper coins were shrunk. Yet one needs to be German to mention it so explicitly on any copper coin. |

Italy - Papal States 4 soldi / 20 c.; mintage = 4,876,000:   This is a 36mm monstrosity of a coin that weighs 20 grams. It must have taken a heavy hit to get bent like it is.. almost like a horse stepped on it.
