1978 Isle of Man one pound. The Isle of Man was the first part of the British Isles to issue a base metal pound coin, and it was similar to the British pound issued five years later, except that it was thinner and lighter. However, like most decimal IOM coins, it was more of an exercise in making money from collectors than a serious attempt to introduce a new denomination! Naturally, the Pobjoy Mint marketed silver and platinum proof versions...
