Imasnore Valued Member Canada 360 Posts	Posted 01/23/2017 2:04 pm Yikes! This is a Repost. I had a Oriental Coin (but maybe token) and I can not identify the year, country, denomination. I was guessing it was Japanese but symbols appear Chinese. So, basically. I Do Not Know. Could another member, whom specializes in this area help? 19 mm, 3.08 grams, non magnetic (silver or copper nickel ?) with plain edge. Jpegs attached. Thank You. Report this Post to the Staff

AnYangMan Valued Member Netherlands 91 Posts	Posted 01/23/2017 2:14 pm It is indeed Chinese. Although the Japanese still use the same characters (hanzi), including the numerals on your coin. Obv. Zhonghua Minguo (reformed republic of China) - 29th year -> 1912 (1st year of the republic) + 28 = 1940 (we count 1912 as well). The reverse shows the denomination, 10 Fen. I believe this is one of those wartime issues from Nanjing, but I am no expert on later republican coinage. This might help you a little. Mika Report this Post to the Staff

This coin...issued by the a Commerical Bank (Hua Hsing) set up by the Japanese Central China Expeditionary Army. 10 Fen, copper nickel and Chinese had an aversion to accepting them (restricted quantities).
