I got this 98 denver with what appears to be a double ear right below the first one

Well this one is the first 1998-D Wide AM I have ever seen. Maybe you mixed a WAM reverse photo on this one. If not I'm speechless...

Unless he has a new discovery, but a WAM should not be even possible on a Denver coin after 1996.

I see no evidence of intentional die abrasion (which can widen the spacing between letters). So it would appear that this is indeed a Wide AM subtype. Congrats.
