Southern Indian? Princely States? Coin

svnhson Valued Member United States 102 Posts	Posted 11/04/2017 10:56 pm Evening all. I attended the St. Charles Coin Show yesterday and picked up a few items. Among which is this small Indian coin. I believe it to be from a Southern Indian Princely State but am unsure and would appreciate help IDing it. I know the front is a bit rough. The front design appears to consist of three circles with dots in their centers, if that helps. Diameter is 9mm. Obverse: Reverse: As always, thanks for any help you all can provide! Not my area, but looks like a "Sri Vira" in Telugu reverse. Seen similar reverses on coins of the Madurai Nayak Dynasty, but can't place the obverse. Report this Post to the Staff

On these images, you can see the legend "Sri vi ra" written in Kanarese script. This legend is found on anonymous coins of Madurai Naiks. Other side will have figures of deities, animals etc.. Letter "sri" is struck in a slightly different way on this coin. This is a very common feature with Naik coins.
