dar76124 - I did some online searching and found an example for sale at $30. I couldnt tell if the quality was the sale as yours, better or worse. (not on ebay) |

Another relapse . . . but justified!  Very scarce 1959 Hawaii Heraldic Art MedalThin planchet with "High Volcano" variety. Link to Copy http://goccf.com/t/350512&whichpage=2#3073569Most of the scarce high volcano Hawaii issues are on thick planchets. DrDarryl has discovered 5 varieties. This is my second variety at this point. I am even more skeptical of mintage figures now of the thin having 4600 minted and the thick with a mintage of 1200. Those numbers, even if broken down should be changed. Perhaps there are a significantly smaller number of "high volcano" thin issues than thick as I can only guess this is a transitional die change issue before the new government required remaining thick planchets were used?  |

Going through some coins I haven't looked at for 20 years. I used to take my (very attractive, then and now) wife to coin shows. Grumpy old men would just hand her stuff (heh). The attached is a Kittredge 165-CN-1a Yes, I *assume* it has been cleaned, but that does not seem to be the normal "post-clean" color. No surface scratches (at least under a 10x), so if cleaned it likely was a dip. Coin has not changed color or toned in 20 years. Thoughts?  |

I think it is a Civil War Store Card. Nice one for sure. Don't know much more than that. How about a reverse image and welcome to the thread.

165CN-1a is the Fuld catalog number.
165 = die pair number
CN = composition (Copper-Nickel alloy)
1a = subtype
Fuld lists this variety as R3 (slightly scarcer) in the catalog.
The color on these varies a bit, if you don't see hairlines under 10x it may very well be original.

My recent acquisition:
2ND NATIONAL AERO CONGRESS
DETROIT
1922
A delegate medal for a Romer Shawhan of Cleveland.
A search turned up that Mr. Shawhan was a noted Cleveland architect.
This is apparently a fairly scarce item judging from a similar example without ribbon on ebay and its inclusion in a well-known aeronautical memorabilia collection.
