I have had this medallion for decades as a gift from my M-I-L who was Panamanian. I never looked at it closely until recently and realized it was 17.5 grams 22K gold. I have tried searches on it but have not found one reference to date. I'd love to find a catalogue reference somewhere. Ken  |

From the Spanish American War - the California Volunteers returning from Manila. This medallion was handed down in the family. My great-grandfather was in the California Volunteers for the conflict, but as far as I knew he only got as far as the Presidio.  |

On the frivolous side, last October Royal Mail issued a first day cover celebrating the Aardman Classic cartoons featuring this painted, silver plated, copper medallion. I just love it, but I don't see The Royal Mint claiming it ever made it, although they did make a 50 pence coin a while back for Wallace & Gromit. I also don't see it being sold separate from the cover. Then last night I noticed Royal mail also made a 0.999 fine 1 ounce silver version of the medallion and cover, "only" 99 pounds in a limited release of 750. It's still available!! I mean, it is a collectable.... right?  |

My father was a firefighter and naturally hung out in the circle of friends that were firefighters/police/sheriff's deputies/CHP. He like to collect memorabilia as he could. This one for the CHP I imagine he acquired between 1974-1992 (from retirement to his passing). It is one ounce pure silver, but I am not sure of any event it is pegged towards.  |

This is from Reagan's 1980 campaign. My grandmother was from an old line of New England Puritan Republicans and was a regular donator. The medal is in pristine condition having been kept for 43 years in a velvet lined mounting presentation case.  |

Nice Reagan medal. I met him when he spoke in Omaha before he became CA governor, got his autograph.

Reagan was in the elevator on his way up to see Lawrence Welk in the penthouse, and my wife saw him and tried to make her way in with him. He told his security to let he in - boy did he regret it. She talked his ear off nearly all the way up. |

These just arrived yesterday along with a couple other Edward VII medals from around the time of his coronation in 1902. I enjoy collecting medals of British royalty for coronations/jubilees that have a Canadian connection either with "Canada" on the medal or made by someone local. These medals are not easy to come by. I had actually never seen them before. Note that the white medal version has the original coronation date of June 26th, while the bronze medal has the revised date following the King's surgery.   In 1902 Canada only had seven provinces and two territories.  |
