Here is a guilded bronze medal from George III England just predating the Napoleontic era and marking the beginning of the industrial revolution. The medal was produced using steam energy.  1796 Guilded bronze medal, to commemorate the completion of the Manchester Infirmary and Lunatic Hospital OBV: Liverpool Exchange REV: Manchester Infirmary and Lunatic Hospital Medal maker: Abraham Seward of Lancaster (1757-1823) Engraver: Thomas Wyon the elder (1767-1830) (T.W) diameter 43 mm, thickness 3 mm, weight 34,39 g |

1c5d7n5m, that's a fantastic medal! I really like the topic, especially the Lunatic Hospital part. Not that numismatists have ever been called lunatics, of course.

This treasure from the very early 1900's should arrive Saturday. It may not look like much, but it may be the only one known. A nine day auction, and I was the first bidder. I fully expected it to sell for hundreds of dollars, so it was a long 9 days. At the last moment I sniped my own bid to make sure - but it was not needed, as I was the only bidder! Thanks, Errers! I've been wearing out the Library of Congress newspaper search, and can't find anything about the store after 1913 or so. I'll be putting many ads they ran in my post. Life was very different back then!
