Found this 1981-S SBA in a box of dollars I went thru. I believe it's a type 2 based on the design of the S. But wanting feedback from the experts! The fields are chrome colored, not black as depicted.
Thanks in advance. -Steve

Type 2. Not sure but, I believe the type 1 was 1979 only.

The Type 2 in 1981 has more of a flat or plateau on the high points of the mint mark.
The 1981 S proof type 1 is the same mintmark as the 1979 type 2. I say it is Type 1.

Look at this link to a good picture from coop

Thanks for the input. After looking at the link John sent, I'm leaning towards Type 1 now and agree w/ you TNG.

For you, I wish it were Type 2. I have a complete SBA set except for that one myself. On the other hand, I can't justify buying a slightly different mintmark just to say I have it. My set looks just as good with or without that variety to me. Others take it very seriously and rightly so. ( I guess )

Then again, I did have to have the Ty 2 Jefferson in my set since I am very serious about that and the cost was a lot lot lot less.
