Yep, that is the main reason I will buy a set, usually if its from a year where most of the coins were not issued in circulation or if an interesting one was (1987, 88, 91) and any year with special coins (Like the 2006 set with its 1c and 2c and 2007 with the surfer 20c).
Amusingly many Australian coin sets have gone up value unlike most decimal New Zealand ones which are now much cheaper than they were at release!
Sets also have the added advantage of protecting the coins from greasy fingers and circulation (Well mid 80s onwards at least).

I finally found my first 2020 50c in circulation. Also found a 2021 X alphabet $1.

Princetane a very good selection of mint sets to buy.
The 2007 set also has the mint set only $1 Mob of Roos

Yes I have that set too, mainly for that coin and the Surfer 20 cent coin.
Currently the mint sets I have are 1977,1982, 1983 Proof, 1987, 1988, 1991, 2006 and 2007.

Last night on ebay a bunch of mint sets from different years (almost every year since 1970) were ending that I thought might be a good opportunity to add to my missing years. I was going to place some bids but when I saw the current bids with 5 hours remaining I didn't even bother. Checked the final bids this morning and as I suspected, they were over the top. I was not amused!  |

yes, it's very interesting to watch what is being paid for UNC mint sets.
Last night a very reliable seller sold a 1974 mint set for a staggering $88 + $7.50
registered postage, while also selling a 1972 mint set for only $46 and a 1973 for $82.
I hope the 50c coins in the 1972 and 1973 sets were the original coins ( hard to tell from the scans provided ) because the 1973 50c in absolute perfect condition is the King Pin of the 50c coins, followed by the 1972. I bought a few of each of these when they were released and immediately wrapped the front and back of inner section in tissue paper to stop the outer of thr PVC wallet from being in any contact with the coins. No stickiness to virtually ruin the coins (A tip : be cautious when buying any mint sets in the Red wallets - especially the 1983 UNC set)
Yet, the same seller sold a 2004 UNC set for a low $17.50 + $7.50 reg postage.Although the obverse of the 50c in the set couldn't be seen, of the 67,795 2004 UNC sets minted, only about a half, or thereabouts, of the sets contain the mint set only 2004 pointy " A's " 50c. These could never be found in circulation and are on parity in scarcity/rarity with the 2005 Coat of Arms 50c.

Yep, that was the seller with the sets I was watching. It's sad that I have an almost complete set of NZ year sets (including proof) but only a few Aussie sets.  Edited by David Graham

I've lost track of what I've found over the last few weeks or more but yesterday I got a 2016 dollar with a rabbit ear and a 2020 10c piece.
I got a Bradman 20c and some New Zealand 5c and 20c pieces from rolls not too long ago.

Nice - they're a bit slow to get out.
I've found more 2020 5c pieces than I know what to do with but only dribs and drabs of the others.
Oh and a 2021 wichity grub dollar too.

This week found 49 x 2019, 27 x 2020 and 34 x 2021. 2019 IRB harder to find (only 10). Hardest 50 cent of all to find over here is 2017 Mabo. Haven't seen one since May and I am pretty much a full-time noodler!!! |

On the $2 coloured coin front I recently had the chance to noodle about 600 coins, with only 3 coloured coins appearing. One was the Tokyo olympics. The coloured specimens seems to be drying up, at least in Brisbane.
