The solidus and poltoraks we will see (maybe also a groschen or trojak?) from 1628-1635 were minted in Elbing, Poland during the Swedish occupation of the Prussian part of Poland during the 30 years' war. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polis...2%80%931629)For collectors of Polish coins, these are the only modestly priced options during these years, though pricey thalers also exist (I think we may see one or two of these as we get closer to 1628?). Really nice detail on that Ducaton and a great coin, despite the edge shaving. Here is another heavily worn Polish 1/24 Thaler:   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

So I wonder if the dies were poorly made or used too long, or the blanks were of uneven thickness, resulting in coins that already weren't much to look at right out of the die?  |
