I am starting to get back into metal detecting after about three years' enforced absence from the hobby. After two major surgical operations I was advised not to lift anything heavier than a half-filled electric kettle until the doctor said it would be OK to start again...
I now have the green light to go detecting. All the earth is rock hard with the current drought, so I tried the beach, hoping that the holiday-makers who were here over the weekend might have dropped a few pound or two-pound coins...
Well, I DID find a coin, but not at all what I expected, and after checking with a better example in my collection I indentified it as a postwar Italian 5 Lire coin from about 1950!
Here it is - yesterday's detector find on the left and the specimen from my collection on the right!
Quote: So you can see it from your house?!?! Nice! Cross over A259 and your at the beach.
This is looking down from where I live to the sea. The street lamp in the distance is on the A259. You can't see the beach because it's at a much lower level than the road.
