Quote: You must be a hockey fan as well as a loon fan I'm not really a hockey fan, but definitely a loonie addict :) These coins were not on my radar at first, but then I had to come to grip that they were indeed loonies and they were dollars and my collection would feel incomplete without them. And once I started collecting them...well you know how the story ends...

Quote: The listed mintage's of some of those loons is pretty low To be honest, I have a hard time believing the low mintage counts for some of these loonies. Less than 100 for 2009 oilers, flames and senators respectively? Must be a mistake or an incomplete count?

As the price of the minipuck loonies rises, one would assume anyone bought at issue would be coming out in auctions or ebay, but very few shows up. I emailed the RCM a couple years ago regarding these ultra low mintage figures, especially the Edmonton one like 49 minted, they responded that the annual report is correct on these mintage of these loonies, just makes very little logic but these coins were minted to demand at the time, there was no demand.

Quote: I have a hard time believing the low mintage counts . But what if they were correct? . Quote: ,just makes very little logic but these coins were minted to demand at the time . They would need special equipment to make them, and need to recover the tooling cost. Such a small # just doesn't make sense. The mint is not in business to lose $. I think the mintages are way off. Just me though.

Great collection and I admire the tenacity to complete it. Quote: They would need special equipment to make them, and need to recover the tooling cost. All of these coins are the same with the exception of the year from an engraving/tooling perspective. The difference is in the decal applied. It is the same as the Hockey quarters from 2006/7 and the Occasions quarters from 2007-2010. I was happy to see the return of the engraved quarters in 2011 and the end of this dollar series. It is one thing for a coin to have the Reverse design primarily painted/decal if it is a one off (2010 Vancouver Lucky Loonie) but for an entire series within a date differing only in the decal is a bit cheap regardless of the packaging and subject matter.

I posted these in the Circulation thread, but I'll give the full story here. The wife bought a pop from the machine at work and got 19 loons in change. Came home and said "you wanna go through these?" Yup. Then I found these 4 (hard to find these days) loons. Not bad, 4 "keepers" (2 Peace, get it?) out of 19. . She now seems to have all the luck. But does she realize, that in reality, that pop just cost her 5 bucks. Shhhhhhhhhh....... What am I worried about, she'll get her 4 bucks out of me one way or another. .

Back from a little migration. . Not much talk on the NCLT page about this, so I'll vent here. The Mint did it to me again. Another loonie has been lost. Bye - bye Bird Series. You can't say they ran out of bird models. This will, IMO, be a mistake. They ran the Young Wildlife toonies, featuring adorable mammals, and it was removed too soon. Trying again with mammals.....ummm. There is a conspiracy here I tell you. Poor loons. My Proof set ends when only silver ones were offered. My no security mark set ended with the folding of the Young Wildlife set. Then the Olympic loons lost out. Bad move. Boooo. Now they're culling the Bird Series. Shame, shame. Sure they are starting another series now, maybe. I just hope they keep making the Specimen set. Ya, I'm mad about the loonie change, but the set is great. I'll pick one up at the post office soon. Just wish it had another bird in it.

So if you remember I found a few mint rolls of Toonies at the bank, well I went back to that bank and asked for Loonies this time, she came back with 8 what appear to be mint rolls. The 1987 was in an unopened shotgun roll rapper looks old, the 95 and 95 where in mixed rolls, 2 full rolls of Terry Fox, a few 08 Olympic and some loose 2010 Vancouver with a roll that is shrink wrapped. All in all not bad. Left side are the best and right side have a mark or two, bottom right is the shrink wrapped roll.
